I went on the 2019 Indian tour to with Peter Drinnen and Brad Murphy. The trip to Mumbai was unbelievable for my development as a player and individual who didn’t realise what he had in Australia. The whole tour was an eye opener for myself and a dose of reality. In addition, to the great learning experience from the culture, the three senior coaches who were made available were even more value to me. The likes of internationals players and state coaches enabled me to tap into their own opinions, particularly for advice I was seeking pre-tour. The two main points I wanted to work on was problem solving in physically and tactically tough conditions, and technique. The coaches available over in India were very helpful and provided continuous justification for their advice and coaching which made their comments clearer. In all, I loved the experience because it was perfect to enhance my performance going forward into next season.

A wonderful opportunity to play and train in another International test playing country. Fantastic coaches from both Australia and India that helped with my skills and on how to approach game situations. At 47 years of age I left India a better cricketer and would recommend it to any player of any age and skill level.

The trip was invaluable in terms of learning and practising the skills required to achieve success in subcontinent conditions. The coaches were outstanding in their assistance, the training sessions were extensive and the experience as a whole was something I would definitely recommend. Training for hours on end, day after day, against eager local net bowlers and practice games on tough Indian pitches are just something you can’t replicate in Australia and is the only real way to improve as a player in those conditions.

The Indian cricket experience is a great trip that I would highly recommend to all players that want to further their game. Personally it has been great working with some of the Indian coaches that all have a wealth of knowledge about their specific field. Training and games are both on quality wickets and grounds. With a particular focus on training against spin, games have allowed me to try what I have been working on in the training environment. Many aspects of my game that I have developed in India now play a vital part in the way I go about playing. Immersing into the way Indians live their lives and play their cricket is a true experience that all should share. Further to the great cricketing experience it is great living with people from other clubs, states and nations allows for a great time off the field.
