Pace Bowling

When looking at a bowling action there are 2 key areas that are considered.  The safety side of the action and then the biomechanically efficient side.

Both vital to being an effective and successful bowler.  I put safety first as it is difficult to take wickets whilst on the sideline and therefore having an action that the weight transference is towards the target line and all is in alignment will certainly assist in minimal breakdowns.

Now other factors do impact, growth along with loads and in particular loads during the growth spurts. I am no professional in this area though I do know that it is a very demanding job and it is vital all bowlers and in particular our younger bowlers look to develop a sound biomechanically efficient repeatable action and they also focus on an appropriate strength and conditioning program. There are specialist who cover these areas and I would certainly recommend to any young up and coming pace bowler that they give consideration to the key areas I have mentioned.

Spin Bowling

Another art. I put this in the wicket-keeping category.

A wonderful skill, a skill that requires enormous amount of time developing and mastering the components of effective spin bowling, regardless of type. Spin firstly is vital though you have flight, variations, drift and drop and then the change of pace, a quality spinner has many tools of deception though they do take time to master.

It is often said that spinners mature later and maybe this is the case as their art is a challenging one though if you have a quality spinner in your side, it is golden as what has been shown in recent years is there are few very efficient players of quality spin bowling around the world.
